2019 Oscars "Best Picture" Prediction.

Here at the Film Buff Society, awards season is one of the busiest and best times of the year. On top of organising events, film screenings and posting content to keep our members and potential members enticed, the main reason is that when it comes to predicting the winners of one of the most prestigious award ceremonies of the year, (the Oscars) we can’t help but get carried away.

The biggest and without a doubt the hardest category to predict is "Best Picture." In order to reference and back up our predictions with as much precision as possible, it’s only right we reference the BAFTA awards which took just a few days ago on Sunday, 10th February at the Royal Albert hall in London. It can be debated as to whether the BAFTAS are a lead up and a potential outcome of the Oscars, and this year it might just be.

This year, the popular period drama directed by Yorgos Lanthimos ‘The Favourite’ walked out with a whopping seven awards, including “the favourite” Olivia Coleman winning the award for best actress on the night. Having said this, although The Favourite might have won seven awards, the film that’s capturing everyone’s interests and hearts is foreign film, “Roma” directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who won best director on the night, best foreign film, and of course best picture. The Netflix original is creating hype all over the "cineworld" and if I was to call it now, I would say that this film has a 95% chance of winning on the night.

Although there are a number of promising films in the same category such as the world record-breaking Black Panther, the story of a music legend told in Bohemian Rhapsody and a story of love, art and tragedy in a Star is Born, the odds are ever in Roma’s favour.
